Join us on Tuesday, September 25th for a special PRville Media Day.  We will start lunch early to allow plenty of time for our PR peeps to get face-to-face with their news counterparts for some good discussion about how we can all communicate most effectively.  We will do small discussion groups, rotating frequently to give you maximum chance to talk with lots of people. Then we will hear from special guest Dave Armon from Critical Mention who will share with us how “Hyper-local News” will be the next big opportunity for PR pros.  (Details below.)

The New News Paradigm with Dave Armon of Critical Mention
Deloitte reported this year that nine million Americans have either pulled out their cable TV or are planning to yank cable.  Local news will be profoundly changed as consumers stop relying primarily on network television affiliates to bring current events into their living rooms.  The new paradigm will involve hyper-local news being provided via the web and IPTV. Devices like Apple TV, Roku and game consoles will deliver video reports produced by established and respected local news brands well beyond ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox stations. Newspapers and radio stations are becoming the next American video broadcasters. This new Connected TV phenomenon is an opportunity for PR and marketing professionals.  Dave Armon, president of Critical Mention, describes how the change is already playing out among major print and broadcast media organizations. Included in his presentation are concrete steps that newsmakers can take to ensure their stories are being told on these highly social, video-based digital media platforms.
 
Our Speaker and Sponsor:  Dave Armon has spent his career working with the technology used by media and PR professionals.  A former journalist with United Press International, he spent 20 years in management at PR Newswire, where he was president and chief operating officer until 2008.  He has served as a director at the social media monitoring company Techrigy, which was sold to Alterian in 2009, and with the PR automation platform dna13, which was sold to CNW Group in 2010.  Dave’s current role is president of the Software-as-a-Service firm Critical Mention, which provides subscribers with a platform that monitors TV and radio in real-time.
