The National Incident Management System (NIMS):
What Every PR Practitioner Needs to Know
Thursday, February 18
UNF University Center
11:30am - 1:00pm
Earthquakes, H1N1, Terrorist Attacks….In a world where the unexpected can be expected, PR professionals need to be prepared for anything.
Join NFPRSA as Lauri-Ellen Smith, APR (Special Assistant to the Sheriff for the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, National Chair for PRSA’s Public Affairs and Government Section) talks about the National Incident Management System (NIMS) and how it can serve as a valuable resource in our profession. Smith and her presentation partner have done presentations on NIMS around the country and have even been invited to do a table top session for spokespersons in Washington, DC this fall, as part of PRSA’s International Conference breakout sessions. Do not miss out on this opportunity for valuable information that can help your career!
Topics will include:
- What is NIMS? Where are we today, eight years after 9-11?
- Why it should matter to people like us?
- What can practitioners do to get up to speed without spending a dollar?
- Quick PRSA commercial: Why section membership is important
- Update on PRSA International Conference in Washington, DC, October 2010
The National Incident Management System (NIMS) provides a systematic, proactive approach to guide departments and agencies at all levels of government, nongovernmental organizations, and the private sector to work seamlessly to prevent, protect against, respond to, recover from, and mitigate the effects of incidents, regardless of cause, size, location, or complexity, in order to reduce the loss of life and property and harm to the environment.
